Why did we do the Coast to Coast? We like walking holidays and we like a challenge. We also wanted to see the Lake District and what better way to see the countryside than on foot. We knew from past experience that you just see so much more, appreciate so much more, and leave the world behind when you're going along on foot. You also meet so many people, from all over, and immediately have something in common with them which leads to some very good times.
May was the perfect time and especially coming from Australia. With it being spring, the countryside was green, the bluebells and buttercups were out, the lambs and calves in the fields and even the pheasants and grouse. It was the England you read about and see pictures of.

In a nutshell we'd say to others - do it. Where else can you better combine a personal challenge with experiencing spectacular changing countryside across England, walking through history, experiencing wonderful B&B's, meeting great people, having your luggage moved ahead for you and enjoying local ales each night with good pub food.
To be honest it was harder than we had thought. Advice to others would be to take 15 days, to definitely break the journey in Grasmere and enjoy it. Other than that it would be to ensure that you've trained enough.
Having the two days with you gave us the confidence in reading the maps and you were an echo in our heads when we pondered the way to take next or on the occasions when we'd missed a turn or taken a wrong turn. What was good was that we always got out of the situation quickly and that was thanks to the time with you.
C2C helped in so many ways - preparation, learning to choose alternate routes and not to automatically go the with main route; the history and stories of the area and best of all just the fun we all had on those two days.

“The country we walked through was fantastic and the views spectacular. It has given us a taste to return to the Lake District.”
