It has always been something I'd felt I'd love to try, but didn't think I could! I didn't know my own country well, especially the North and what better way to see it than to walk across it ?

My sister, who is 5 years older than me wanted to have a challenge- as she put it “before it was too late” by which she meant too unfit. I love walking and was keen to do it with her having walked Hadrian's Wall the year before.

If you think you’d like to do it, but are unsure about your navigational or fitness use Coast to Coast Help, this will instruct you in navigation and provide you with the most helpful hints on areas that are causing you concern. Above all, do it, you will feel so good afterwards and so proud of yourself.

Hugely; I feel this specially for my elder sister who had less experience and confidence about the trip than I had. Mike Wood boosted her confidence and his enthusiasm was infectious.

I honestly feel his input made a quantum difference to the Coast to Coast. I grasped the navigation using my compass and map reading probably for the first time as normally I just let my husband decide which way we go! I now have the confidence to do this myself .Mike also gave snippets of advice; the pace to walk at uphill, the kinds of food snacks to take and how much water and what equipment‘s essential and what is not, to carry in your day pack.
